What About the Hepatitis F Virus?
|
The studies done on hepatitis F (HFV) are inconclusive. It is believed that this
is an enteric virus, which is unclassified. It is non-enveloped with 25-35nm icosahedral
particles, containing a double strand of DNA.104 In 1994, it was reported
that viral particles had been isolated in the stool of post-transfusion, non-A,
non-B, non-C, and non-E hepatitis cases. The particle was then injected into Indian
rhesus monkeys, which presumably caused a hepatitis that was subsequently named
hepatitis F. Unfortunately, other researchers were unable to confirm these findings
in subsequent studies. The viral particles classified as HFV were “incidental”;
thus, researchers believe there is no clear evidence of HFV.92
