Optimizing Barrier Protection During

Clinical Reference Manual: Optimizing Barrier Protection During a Pandemic Event
Caused by Influenza A is one in a series of continuing educational services
provided by Ansell. This educational module provides basic knowledge of the safety
issues associated with pandemic risks and prevention strategies to avert adverse
reactions.
Upon completion of this educational activity, the learner should be able to:
- Discuss the history of pandemic events pertaining to influenza A.
- Discuss the pathophysiology of influenza A disease.
- Discuss influenza A infection control measures.
- Discuss influenza as a bioterroristic weapon.
- Discuss how influenza A can mutate to become a new virus strain.
- Discuss who will be at risk of contracting the disease in a pandemic situation.
- Discuss the “Global Strategic Plan” for a pandemic event.
- Discuss how to optimize gloving performance during a pandemic event.
The information contained in this self-study guidebook is intended for use by healthcare
professionals who are responsible for or involved in the following activities relating
to hand barrier protection:
- Educating healthcare personnel.
- Establishing institutional or departmental policies and procedures.
- Decision-making responsibilities for hand barrier products.
- Maintaining regulatory compliance; i.e., OSHA, ADA, and CDC.
- Managing employee health and infection control services.
This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Association of periOperative
Registered Nurses, Inc. (AORN), an accredited approver of continuing nursing education
by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Activities that are approved by AORN are recognized as continuing education for
registered nurses. This recognition does not imply that AORN or the ANCC Commission
on Accreditation approves or endorses any product included in the presentation.
The AORN designates this educational activity for a maximum of 2 contact hour. Additionally,
this continuing education activity has been approved by the Association of Surgical
Technologists, Inc., for 2 CE in the AST Category 1 for continuing education in
surgical technology. Approval refers to recognition of educational activities only
and does not imply endorsement of any product or company displayed in any form during
the educational activity.

AN 85% PASSING SCORE IS REQUIRED FOR SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION.

Allow 4 to 6 weeks for processing and issuance of a certificate. Any learner who
does not successfully complete the post-test will be notified and given an opportunity
to resubmit for certification.
