Hand Hygiene
Ansell Healthcare Products LLC has an ongoing commitment to the development of quality
hand barrier products and services for the healthcare industry. This self-study
Clinical Reference Manual, Hand Hygiene: Skin and Hand Care in the Healthcare Setting
is one module in a continuing education series. This education module provides knowledge
and information on skin health and hand hygiene methodologies.
Upon completion of this educational activity, the learner should be able to:
- Describe three functions of the skin.
- List two reasons why healthcare workers may not be compliant with hand hygiene guidelines.
- Describe rationale for maintaining good skin integrity.
- List three chemicals used for hand hygiene in healthcare.
- Describe the categories CDC/HICPAC uses in its recommendation system.
- Describe two methods to enhance skin health.
The information contained in this self-study guidebook is intended for use by healthcare
professionals who are responsible for or involved in the following activities related
to hand hygiene:
- Educating healthcare workers on skin and hand care in the healthcare setting
- Establishing institutional or departmental policies and procedures with regard to
hand hygiene
- Decision-making responsibilities for hand barrier products
- Maintaining regulatory compliance with agencies such as OSHA, ADA, and CDC
- Managing and monitoring employee health
This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Association of periOperative
Registered Nurses, Inc., an accredited approver of continuing nursing education
by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Activities that are approved by AORN are recognized as continuing education for
registered nurses. This recognition does not imply that AORN or the ANCC Commission
on Accreditation approves or endorses any product included in the presentation.
The AORN designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1 contact hour.
Additionally, this continuing education activity has been approved by the Association
of Surgical Technologists, Inc. for 1 CE in the AST Category 1 for continuing education
in surgical technology. Approval refers to recognition of educational activities
only and does not imply endorsement of any product or company displayed in any form
during the educational activity.

AN 85% PASSING SCORE IS REQUIRED FOR SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION.

Allow 4 to 6 weeks for processing and issuance of certificate. Any learner who does
not successfully complete the post-test will be notified and given an opportunity
to resubmit for certification.
