OVERVIEW

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES


At the conclusion of this module, the participant should be able to:
  1. Discuss radiology.
  2. Explain the history of medical diagnostic imaging.
  3. Describe the biological effects of x-rays.
  4. Explain safety principles for using x-rays.
  5. Differentiate between the three categories of radiation used in medicine.
  6. Discuss regulations related to radiation exposure.
  7. Discuss the monitoring of radiation exposure.


INTENDED AUDIENCE


The information contained in this self-study guidebook is intended for use by healthcare professionals who are responsible for or involved in the following activities related to x-ray safety, especially fluoroscopically performed procedures:
  • Educating healthcare personnel on radiation health hazards.
  • Decision-making responsibilities for radiation safety.
  • Working with or around live fluoroscopy or any radiation equipment.


INSTRUCTIONS


This educational activity is accredited by the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN), an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. The AORN designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.2 contact hours.

To receive contact hours for this program through Ansell Healthcare Educational Services, please review the following instructions:
  1. Read the information in each section carefully with the Program Objectives as your focus.
  2. At the conclusion of the exercise, please login (if you have a UserID and Password),
    or register by completing the CE Application Form
  3. Complete the Post-Test and Program Evaluation segments, and submit for processing and awarding of CE certification.
AN 85% PASSING SCORE IS REQUIRED FOR SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION.


Allow 4 to 6 weeks for processing and issuance of certificate. Any learner who does not successfully complete the post-test will be notified and given an opportunity to resubmit for certification.
